WTC Cross Country Competes At Nationals
Despite competing in only three events this season, Western Texas Cross Country men’s and women’s teams were able to qualify and compete in the 2020 NJCAANational Cross Country Championships, which took place in Fort Dodge, Iowa on November 14. This is the first NJCAA Championship event to take place since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in March. The women were among 15 teams that competed, while the men were part of 22 teams at the Division I level.
The Lady Westerners competed in the 5K race. Sophomore Brooke Rauch was the top individual finisher. She finished with a time of 19:59.58, which placed her at 18th overall. Rauch also became a NJCAA Cross Country Coaches Association All American. As a team, the Lady Westerners finished in 9th place with an average time of 20:55.
The Westerners competed in the 8K race. Freshman Geovanni Cruz finished 45th overall with a time of 27:29.32, best among the men’s team. The Westerners finished with an average time of 28:27, giving them an overall finish of 11th place as a team.
