
Snyder, TX - Western Texas volleyball Head Coach Melissa Avila has been named the next head coach of the Cameron University Aggies volleyball team.
Avila will be taking her coaching talents to Lawton, OK to compete at the four-year level in the Lone Star Conference. For the past six seasons, she has been at the helm for the Lady Westerners volleyball program. In 2023, Avila led Western Texas College to an 18 win season and a NJCAA Region V championship. Prior to her head coach position, she was an assistant coach at Western Texas College for two seasons and Hastings College. Within her two seasons at Hastings, she was a piece of their 2016 National Championship team. Alongside her impressive collegiate career experience, Avila has coached the 17U Texas 432 Club Volleyball team since 2021.
A graduate of Dickinson State with a bachelor's degree in exercise science and a minor in business, she continued her education as she earned a masters in secondary physical education and coaching at Hastings College. For nearly a decade, Avila has been an incredible asset to Western Texas College athletics and the department is excited to see her career advance at the four-year university level.
