WTC Volleyall Earns Multiple Team and Individual All-American Honors

The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) has recognized athletes and teams across both collegiate and high school levels that excel in the classroom. Western Texas College was named one of the 822 teams to earn the AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2016-17 season after posting a 3.51 cumulative grade point average. Teams must carry at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative GPA on a 5.0 scale to be eligible for the award. The Lady Westerners were the only school in the region to receive the award. In all, 21 NJCAA Women's Volleyball teams were honored by the AVCA. A few of the players also received the NJCAA Academic Student-Athlete Award. Savannah Cook (3.62), Kelsey Gabler (3.60), and Victoria Navarro (3.69) received Third Team honors and Abigail Talbott received First Team honors with a 4.0 GPA.

"I am proud of the commitment our student-athletes have to their academics and proud of the commitment our support staff puts into developing successful students" said WTC head coach Whitney Estes.

WTC opens the 2017 season at home against Laredo Community College on August 24th and continues into the weekend at the Midland College Kick-Off Classic, August 25th-26th.
