Snyder, TX - Western Texas Westerners (2-8-1, 2-4 WJCAC) won their final regular season game of the 2024 season against the Cisco Wranglers (0-14, 0-5 WJCAC) on Tuesday, 2-1.
The Lady Westerners soccer program held their sophomore day in their final game of the season to honor the 13 Lady Westerners that will be moving on. The student-athletes invited family, friends and teammates to walk them halfway down the field to Head Coach Jaquelinn Moreno-Zavala. Moreno gifted her sophomores personalized baskets and posters with a graphic of the player - for their special day. The pregame festivities included announcements of messages from Head Coach Moreno and Assistant Coach Melanie Olivares wishing their sophomores the best in their future journey.
To start the afternoon, the Wranglers began the game with a quick score at the sixth minute, 0-1. Less than ten minutes later, Western Texas responded with a score of their own. The Lady Westerners threatened the Cisco net as Roxana Bustamante tied the game at one apiece, 1-1. The two teams stayed knotted into the half.
It was a competitive matchup up and down the pitch as both teams tried to break the tie. Again, it was Bustamante who found the back of the net for the game winning score at the 62nd minute mark, 2-1. Western Texas went on to win the game with the same score for their second conference victory of the season. The Lady Westerners season comes to a close with an overall record of 2-8-1 and 2-4 in the conference.
