Snyder, TX - Lady Westerners set to kick off the 2024 soccer season.
Head Coach Jaquelinn Moreno-Zavala is back for her second year at the helm for the Western Texas College soccer program. She made a positive impact in her first full season against conference opponents. In 2023, the team finished with a 1-5 conference record and Morena-Zavala followed with a 2-3-1 conference record. Moreno-Zavala said, "As I kick off my second season as the head coach of WTC, I am confident we have the necessary talent and skills to go further this year".
The team is seeing many Lady Westerners return for their second season at Western Texas College. Captain Lesly Michelle Perez who started nine of twelve matches in 2023 will be in the back field. Starting goalkeeper, Kamilia Onzures Barrios, will be back in net along with Grecia Luna. Defenders Alyssa Ortega, Diana Vega, Julieta Vega, Roxana Bustamante and Maria Alice Jannuzzi are returning to the backfield. Midfielders Ashlyn Maradiaga, Lisset Onofre and forwards Princess Gallardo, Ariel Gutierrez are back for Western Texas College.
Moreno-Zavala is happy to see half of her team back in action. She said, "With most of our backline returning and our starting goalkeeper back in action, we have a solid foundation". The other half of the 2024 roster will be a cast of newcomers with an international player joining the squad. Head Coach Moreno-Zavala is very enthusiastic and ready for the 2024 campaign, "I am truly excited about the upcoming season and can't wait to see what we can achieve this season".
UP NEXT: Women's soccer starts their 2024 regular season against Northeastern Junior College on Friday, August 23rd. Kickoff will be at 1pm.
