Lady Westerners Drop Two Close Games at Herb Richardson Classic

The Western Texas College women's basketball team faced formidable competition in the Herb Richardson Classic, encountering challenging matchups against top-tier teams. Despite two close losses, the team remains resilient, determined to regroup, and now sets its focus on the upcoming WTC Classic.

The opening game against the #19-ranked Tyler Junior College saw the Westerners in a fierce battle, narrowly losing 70-68. Leading the charge, Rachel Okoye showcased her scoring prowess with an impressive 23 points, while Briana Montoya added 13 points and 5 rebounds. However, the team struggled with turnovers, committing 24 in the contest.

In the second matchup against Angelina College, the Westerners faced a 63-53 defeat. Briana Montoya again played a pivotal role, scoring 15 points, and Rachel Okoye contributed with 12 points and 7 rebounds. Shooting inefficiency became a challenge, as the Westerners managed only a 28.2% shooting accuracy, while Angelina College capitalized with a 52.9% three-point shooting rate on 17 threes. 

Despite the setbacks in the Herb Richardson Classic, the Westerners are eager for redemption and to showcase their resilience in the upcoming WTC Classic on their home floor.
