NMJC Invitational Results

Cross Country Teams

Friday, September 29 the Westerners Cross country teams competed at the New Mexico Junior College Invitational. Our past two races out, the courses were tough and we were focusing on racing for position. This course is flat so it was nice to see where both the women and men are at before we start getting into the championship portion of our season. We had the opportunity to see El Paso Community College for the first time this year.

Jackline Kwambai led the ladies team this week with her 2nd top 10 finish of the year. Both of our ladies competed well placing within the top 20 out of a field of 54 athletes. We are confident that these ladies will provide racing leadership to the remainder of the team, once they're healthy enough to toe the starting line. Our focus is to have all our ladies ready to go at the Regional meet, at the end of next month.

Alberto Bejarano stepped up this week and led the men's team. We had six out of our seven men run a personal best today, when that happens it is always a great day. There will always be little things we will need to continue to work on as a team, but every race these men are running faster and becoming closer as a team.
