
Snyder, TX - Western Texas men's basketball (6-15, 3-5 WJCAC) defeated the New Mexico Military Institute (6-15, 1-7 WJCAC) Monday night, 66-49.
The Westerners welcomed the Broncos to the WTC Coliseum for their first battle against each other. Five minutes into the game, the two sides were knotted at nine points each, 9-9. Western Texas would take the edge and extend their lead to six from a Makhaya Moore jump shot, 17-11. A short time later, the Broncos nailed two threes to tie the game, 17-17. New Mexico Military took an advantage and went up by seven, 19-26. The Westerners kept their opponent scoreless and regained the lead just before half, 30-26.
Western Texas did not surrender their lead for the remainder of the game and outscored New Mexico Institute by 13 in the second half, 66-49. Justin McCall was the team's leading scorer with 15 points, stole the rock once, and provided three assists. Quentin Henry was second in scoring with 14 points, two steals and three rebounds. Ronald Durham was up and down the court with his five rebounds, three assists, two steals and eleven points. With the victory, Western Texas won their third conference matchup of the season.
UP NEXT: The Westerners will be on the road for their next conference matchup against the Clarendon Bulldogs on Thursday, February 6th. Tip off will be at 7:30pm.
