Westerners Basketball Host WTC Classic

Snyder, TX - Western Texas men's basketball (5-4, 0-0 WJCAC) hosted their WTC Classic at the WTC Coliseum on November 21st-23rd. 

From Thursday through Saturday, Westerners basketball welcomed teams from across Texas for a three-day basketball event. Western Texas was scheduled for three games throughout the busy weekend against Dallas Brookhaven, McLennan and Wayland Baptist JV. 

WTC vs Dallas Brookhaven, 104-69

The Westerners began the weekend on a positive note with a three-digit offensive performance for their victory against the Brookhaven Bears. Western Texas outscored their opponent in the first half by 21 points to dominate by halftime, 57-36. It was much of the same in the final 20 minutes of play as they closed out their first matchup of the classic with a large win, 104-69. 

Will Lobor earned a double-double as he scored 17 points and came down with eleven rebounds. Justin McCall led the team in scoring with 22 points and also recorded two steals and four rebounds. Ronald Durham was second in scoring with 20 points and was near a double-double with eight steals and a team leading six assists. The Westerners earned their first win of the weekend in an impressive high offensive route against the Bears. 

WTC vs McLennan, 70-74

In a hard fought battle until the end, the Westerners fell just short against the Highlanders. Western Texas found themselves up by one point at halftime, 35-34. The second half was a competitive 20 minutes of play with key shots, turnovers and rebounds. The Highlanders separated in the final minutes as the Westerners slipped away for a loss on Friday night. 

McCall led both sides in scoring with his 21 points along with three assists and four rebounds. He was also 5-6 from the free-throw line and 4-8 at the three point line. Lobor followed with 15 points and two rebounds. Durham led the team with six assists as he tallied ten points and a rebound. 

WTC vs Wayland Baptists JV, 101-61

The Westerners responded very well in their third and final game of the classic. Western Texas closed out the weekend on Saturday with a three-digit victory over the Wayland Baptists JV Pioneers. Western Texas toppled the Pioneers by 40 points to close out the event with two victories. 

Calven Charles earned a double-double with 13 points and eleven rebounds along with two blocks. McCall led the team in scoring with 17 points, assisted three times and came down with four rebounds. Mayen Ayuel scored seven points and grabbed ten rebounds. Western Texas College earned two wins on the weekend as the WTC Classic ended on Saturday night. 

UP NEXT: The Westerners will play their next game on the road in Colorado against Lamar College on November, 26th. Tipoff will be at 4pm.
