
Snyder, TX - Western Texas men's basketball (1-2, 0-0 WJCAC) held their home opener against the University of Southwest Mustangs JV (0-0, 0-0 RRAC), 111-49.
Western Texas began the season and the month of November on the road with two games in Arizona against Arizona Western and Arizona Eastern. The first matchup ended in a close finish in overtime but the Westerners fell by four points and lost to the Monsters a day later. The Westerners were finally welcomed home on November 5th as the team hosted the JV Mustangs.
The Westerners had a successful first half as the home squad outscored their opponents by 30 points. The first 20 minutes of play ended with Western Texas dominantly ahead, 47-17. It was more of the same for the second half as the Westerners outscored the Mustangs by 32-points. The home squad closed out their first victory of the season on Tuesday, 111-49.
Ronald Durham earned a double-double as he scored ten points and ten assists. Mayen Ayuel led the team in scoring with 16-points, earned a block and a steal. Davonte Landry was second in scoring with 13 points along with four defensive rebounds. Western Texas finished the night with a solid 62.2% field goal percentage and 70.6% free throw percentage. The Westerners earned their first win of the season in their home opener against University of Southwest JV.
UP NEXT: Western Texas will play their next game on the road at Weatherford College on Tuesday, November 12th. Tipoff will be at 7pm.
