Five WTC Golfers Sign to Three Universities

The Western Texas College Golf program is pleased to announce that five of its players signed to play for three different universities in two states.

Dante Griner, Zane Naude, and Logan Clayton all signed to University of Texas-Permian Basin (UTPB) in Odessa, Texas. Inma Ortiz Prieto signed with Texas A & M-Commerce, in Commerce, Texas. Josephine Bertelsen signed with Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers, Florida.

Dante Griner, a freshman from Monahans, Texas, will join UTPB’s Falcon program after being a part of the WTC men’s team. The WTC men’s team took a third-place team finish in the WBU Invitational last fall in Plainview, Texas. Griner will start the spring season with highlights including the WJCAC Invitational in Odessa, Regionals in Abilene and Willow Park, and the NJCAA Men’s Championship, May 12-16, at the Odessa Country Club in Odessa, Texas.

Zane Naude, a freshman from South Africa, and Logan Clayton, a freshman from Clovis, New Mexico, will both join UTPB’s Falcon program this fall. Both were part of a team that finished first at the Texas Wesleyan Tournament last fall, where Naude finished tied for 14th individually, and Clayton tied for 23rd. Both contributed to the team win at the WBU Invitational in October. Upcoming key tournaments for the women’s team this spring include the Region V Championship in Snyder, Texas, this April and the NJCAA Women’s National Championship, May 10-14 in Garden City, Kansas.

Inma Ortiz Prieto, a sophomore from Spain, will join the Texas A & M Lion golf program. Ortiz Prieto finished the spring 2019 campaign as part of a women’s team that finished third overall at the NJCAA Women’s National Championship and tied for 20th individually. In the fall of 2019, Ortiz Prieto finished 7th individually at the Texas Wesleyan Tournament and was part of the team wins at the same tournament and the WBU Invitational as well. This spring, she will attempt to return to the NJCAA Women’s National Championship, May 10-14, in Garden City, Kansas. Off the course, Ortiz Prieto was a WJCAC All-Academic member in the fall of 2018 and part of the women’s golf team that held the top GPA in the conference for 2018-2019.

Josephine Bertelsen, a sophomore from Vejie, Denmark, joins the Florida Gulf Coast University’s Eagle women’s golf team this fall. Bertelsen was part of the 2018-2019 Lady Westerner team that finished third overall at the NJCAA Women’s National Championship. Bertelsen finished 9th overall, earning second-team All-American honors. In the fall of 2019, Bertelsen finished 1st overall in the Texas Wesleyan Tournament and 1st overall in the WBU Invitational. Her team also finished first in both of these tournaments. As she finishes her sophomore year, Bertelsen will look to return to the NJCAA Women’s National Championship, May 10-14, in Garden City, Kansas. Off the course, Bertelsen was a part of the WJCAC All-Academic team in Fall 2018 and Spring 2019. She was also a part of the women’s golf team that held the top GPA in the conference for 2018-2019. Bertelsen won an NJCAA Academic Student-Athlete Award in the 2018-2019 season.
