WTC Coaches, Athletes Win Awards at National Track and Field Championships

PITTSBURG, KS— Western Texas College Athletics is pleased to announce that two coaches and two athletes have earned top awards at the NJCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship in Pittsburg, Kansas meet this week. The awards were presented by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

"What a great honor for WTC to be represented by some of the best in the nation," said Tammy Davis, Western Texas College Athletic Director.

Thursday night during the coaches' meeting held in conjunction with the 2019 Indoor National Track and Field Championships, the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced the 2019 Indoor National Coaches and Athletes of the Year Awards. Western Texas College (WTC) was well represented on both the coaches' ballot and the athletes' ballot.

WTC's Track and Field coaches as well as two student-athletes walked away with top honors.

 James Williams won Head Men's Coach of the Year. Williams completes his seventh season at WTC this spring. The USTFCCCA awarded Trinity Williams the Men's Assistant Coach of the Year. She finishes her sixth season at WTC this semester.

"Coach Williams has done a great job in continuing to build this program to the level which attracts wonderful talent from all over the world," added Davis.

"He and Trinity are both assets to not only WTC but to the Snyder community and we are thankful they are part of our family."

In addition to the awards for the coaches, two Western Texas College athletes earned Athlete of the Year awards.  The USTFCCCA named Emmanuel Yeboah Men's Track Athlete of the Year. In addition, Mariya Hudson was named Female Track Athlete of the Year.

The NJCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship got underway Friday from the Prentice Gudgen Complex at Pittsburg State University. Last season's indoor track campaign culminated with the WTC women's team placing 6th and the men's team placing 8th at the national championship meet held at Texas Tech University.
