WTC Athletes Headed to College National Rodeo Finals

SNYDER— The Western Texas College Rodeo team is once again sending talented athletes to the College National Rodeo Finals (CNFR) in Casper, Wyoming June 9-15, 2019.

Colten Fritzlan (Bull Riding) and Rooster Yazzie (Steer Wrestling) will compete against the best of the best in college rodeo for individual event championships from the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA).

The Western Junior College Athletic Conference (WJCAC) also named both athletes to its First Team, All-Conference.

"Really excited for the two individuals we have going to the CNFR," said WTC Rodeo Coach Greg Rhodes.

Current standings in the Southwest Region from the NIRA website rank Fritzlan at number one in the bull riding and Yazzie at number three in the steer wrestling. The NIRA also places the WTC Men's team at number six and the Women's team at number eight.

"Our objective every year is to have a chance with the people we take up there to be able to compete for a national title in the events that those individuals compete in," added Rhodes.

"Both Colten and Rooster are legit contenders for individual national titles."
