Westerner Classic Golf Tournament

Westerner Classic

The Western Texas College Golf program will host the third annual O'Day Westerner Classic Golf Tournament on September 15 and 16, 2018. On Saturday the 15th, the tournament will take place at the Scurry County Golf Course, 557 U.S. 84. On Sunday the 16th, the tournament will take place at Sammy Baugh Golf Course on the Western Texas College campus, 6200 College Avenue

"This tournament is a great way for the community to play a competitive round of golf and support the golf program at WTC at the same time," said Matt McCormick, WTC's Head Golf Coach.

Coach Bob O'Day founded the golf program at WTC in 1971. As the first golf coach for the program, O'Day garnered two Regional Team Championships and four Conference Team Championships during his tenure from 1971 to 1981.

"He is the main reason WTC has a golf program," McCormick added. "We felt naming the tournament after him is a great way to recognize his contribution to the WTC Golf program."

The format for the tournament is 2-man teams with a scramble on Saturday and a shamble on Sunday. The field will be limited to forty teams with four flights based on a full field. Tee times are 8 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. both days. On Sunday, the first and second flights are at 8:00 a.m. followed by the Championship and President at 1:30 p.m. This is subjected to change based on the number of teams. Flights will be determined after Saturday's round.

The entry fees are $120 for individuals and $240 for teams. 100% will be paid out: 1st is 50%, 2nd is 30%, and 3rd is 20%. Mulligans and Carts may be purchased. All proceeds benefit the WTC Golf programs.
